Jerome David Salinger was not an ordinary man. He was born in New York City and was raised in Manhattan. He became famous in his early age, but preferred to lead a quiet life and did not appear in public. During about 50 years he had only his privet life. Salinger died in 2010, but his last interview was in 1980.
He started his writing career in the secondary school. He wrote his first stories at night under the blanket. Later Jerome tried to study in different universities, but he finished none of them. He took part in the World War II. During the war he met Ernest Hemingway, and was impressed with his views on life and art.
Salinger published a lot of short stories and one novel “The Catcher in The Rye”. The characters in his stories are usually the teenagers up to 17 years. His novel made him really popular, but Jerome decided to leave just for himself. He wrote just for fun and did not talked with critics and journalists. The last years he lived alone and was engaged in a variety of spiritual practices (Buddhism, yoga etc.) and in non-traditional medicine.
